CompactFlash Type of data storage device that uses flash memory in a standardized enclosure. It was first specified and produced by SanDisk Corporation in 1994. The physical format is now used for a variety of devices, including MP3 players.
MP3 Popular digital audio encoding and lossy compression format. It was designed to reduce the amount of data required to represent audio, yet still sound like a faithful reproduction of the original, uncompressed version. In popular usage, MP3 also refers to files of sound or music recordings stored in the MP3 format on computers.
UMS (USB Mass Storage) Interface used by many devices, such as cameras and media players. By presenting themselves as simple data repositories, these devices can leverage the high degree of support for the USB mass-storage device class in current operating systems' USB driver stacks and allow easy read and write access to their internal memories.
WMA (Windows Media Audio) Proprietary compressed audio file format developed by Microsoft. It was initially a competitor to the MP3 format, but with the introduction of Apple's iTunes Music Store, it has positioned itself as a competitor to the Advanced Audio Coding format used by Apple. It is part of the Windows Media framework. An initial reason for the development of WMA might have been that MP3 technology is patented and has to be licensed from Thomson SA for inclusion in the Microsoft Windows operating system.
WMDRM Windows Media Digital Rights Management (WMDRM) is a Content Management System that restricts the use of digital files in order to protect the interests of copyright holders. DRM technologies can control file access (number of views, length of views), altering, sharing, copying, printing, and saving. These technologies may be contained within the operating system, program software, or in the actual hardware of a device.
